Hey everyone. Today, I’m sharing a fun adventure my family and I had on a recent impulse trip to Srirangapatna, a historic town near Mysuru!

A Not-So-Smooth Start

It all began with a sudden urge to explore something new. So, on a whim, I packed a small bag, loaded up my wife and our little daughter, and hit the road to Srirangapatna at 5:00 PM. Our first plan was to reach the famous Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary by 6:30 PM and enjoy the lovely evening birdlife.

But as luck would have it, just as we started our journey, our car decided to play up! Thankfully, we were close to Popular Automatch, which I located using Google Maps. True to its reviews, they were incredibly helpful and fixed the car quickly. By 7:00 PM, we were back on the road, a little delayed but with a grateful heart for Popular Automatch’s amazing service!

Expressway Delight and Farmstay Bliss

The new Bangalore-Mysore Expressway is a dream! The smooth roads and well-maintained lanes made the drive a breeze. We ended up reaching Srirangapatna even earlier than expected. Feeling a bit peckish, we stopped at Poojari Fish Land for a delicious dinner. With happy tummies, we then headed to our accommodation for the night – River House Farmstay.

This farmstay was an absolute gem! Nestled amidst serene surroundings, it was the perfect place to unwind. The best part? It was within walking distance of the river! The owner, a very humble person, even welcomed us with a warm cup of tea upon arrival.

A Relaxing Morning by the River

The next day, we started our exploration bright and early at 8:00 AM. Our first stop? The river access right next to the temple complex. The peaceful atmosphere and gentle sounds of the flowing water were a perfect way to start the day. My daughter had a blast feeding the colorful fish that swam around our feet in the shallow waters.

After a few hours of soaking in the serenity, we went back to our delightful farmstay. They even treated us to another complimentary cup of coffee before we said our goodbyes.

Temple, Mountains & Local Delights

Feeling refreshed, we headed for breakfast at Gandada Gudi Hotel, a local eatery recommended by the farmstay owner. With full bellies, we embarked on our next adventure: Karighatta Peak!

The journey to the peak was exciting, with winding roads leading us upwards. At the mountain top, we were greeted by the impressive Srinivasa Temple. We spent some time offering prayers and admiring the intricate architecture. But the real highlight for my daughter was the fun-filled children’s park!

The panoramic view of the city sprawled out below from the mountain top was simply breathtaking. We spent a good amount of time soaking in the scenery while my daughter enjoyed the swings and slides. For a quick and refreshing lunch, we opted for delicious chats, ice-creams, masala soda, and fresh fruit bowls from the cheerful local vendors (thelas) around the area.

Evening by the Kaveri & A Smooth (Almost) Drive Back

As the day progressed, we headed towards the Sri Nimishambha Temple. The serene banks of the Kaveri River next to the temple were a perfect spot to spend the evening. My daughter absolutely loved dipping her feet in the cool water and watching the gentle flow. We savored some more local delights for a late lunch – crispy pakoras and yummy chats. To top it all off, my daughter even enjoyed a short horse ride!

With the sun setting, painting the sky in beautiful hues, it was time to head back home.

The drive back on the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway was smooth sailing. However, once we hit NICE Road, traffic started to pick up. By the time we reached Bengaluru city, the traffic had thickened considerably. Despite the slightly bumpy ride home due to traffic, we reached safe and sound by 8:00 PM, our hearts brimming with happy memories of our impromptu Srirangapatna adventure!
